4 Steps To Break Free From Your Limiting Beliefs

How to recognise and rid yourself of the self-imposed limiting beliefs stopping you from being successful and achieving your goals.

There’s something holding you back. And I guarantee I know what it is… It’s your limiting beliefs…

Like some form of fitness mindreader, I’m gonna get inside your head for the next couple of minutes and have a rummage around. Because I want to help you.

Right now, there’s something causing you to doubt yourself.

A thought rolling around your mind like a single marble in an empty room.

A thought you can’t shake.

Like an annoying song on repeat in your head… (insert the name of any Britney Spears track here).

Every morning you wake up and BOOM!

It hits you baby one more time…

A voice in your head screaming,

“Oh baby, baby… How was I supposed to know?”

Well, maybe not that… More like this…

“You can’t”…

“You’re wasting your time”…

“What’s the point?”

“People are just gonna laugh at you”

“What the hell are you doing with your life?”

These are your limiting beliefs.

 

The Truth About Your Limiting Beliefs

Here’s the brutal truth about your limiting beliefs. You put it there! It’s merely a fabrication of your own anxieties, projected on to others…

You’re in control of the playlist and pressing play on the annoying song every day.

Hell. You even wrote the damn song!

Think about it logically…

Has anyone ever come up to you and mocked you for going to the gym?

I doubt it…

Has anyone criticised you for trying to lose weight? Or said you’ve got no chance and might as well give up now?

I’m guessing not.

Truth is… No one really cares.

Everyone is too wrapped up in their own lives to care whether what’s going on in your head.

Your limiting belief will always be your roadblock… Unless you remove it…

“But Simon… my limitations are REAL.”

Sure, you can tell yourself that.

If you want the narrative of your life to be a victim of circumstance then keep believing. In fact, that’s the easiest thing to do.

But if you really want to make a change in your life, you need to switch up the playlist…

Here are those 4 steps again…

1. Acknowledge Your Limiting Beliefs

The first stage of the process is to actually acknowledge what your limiting beliefs are. And it’s important to be honest here. But don’t hide anything away. Because now is the time to get real with yourself.

These limiting beliefs have held you back long enough. So get them down on paper, so they’re staring you in the face in black and white. Because, it’s going to make everything more real.

 

2. Write Something Positive Related To Your Limiting Beliefs

If you feel like you’ve tried every diet under the sun and still can’t lose weight, you might feel destined to always be stuck at square one. But you don’t have to think like that…

So how about saying to yourself something like this, “All of the failed diets in the past have been a learning experience. And now I know what doesn’t work for me and this is going to help me make positive decisions in the future.”

Instantly, you can see how the negative feeling gets turned into something positive here. It changes the mindset completely. And you no longer see everything from a victims perspective. Everything is now a learning experience.

 

3. Start Believing You Can Be The Person You Want To Be

I truly believe you can achieve your goals if you believe in yourself. If you genuinely believe you can be leaner, healthier, and stronger then over time you CAN make it happen. And that goes for anything in life too.

So write down a statement of who you want to become. And just make sure you BELIEVE it!

 

4. Act As Though You Are That Person Already

Finally, make decisions and take action as if you are the person you want to become. If you want a six pack, then what day to day decisions would someone like that make? Would they skip the gym to lie in bed all day? Would they order takeaway 3 times a week?

Whatever the goal and whoever you want to become, understand what it takes to get there. And then start being that person.

Trust me, this is going to lead you to making more positive decision that align with your goals.

Of course, everything won’t change overnight. But you’ll have the mindset of someone making the right decisions, consistently. And that’s what it’s all about.
